Working closely with the BAZG and MIC, Gebrüder Weiss was able to successfully and smoothly process the first live import customs clearances using our new Passar Import module at the Au border customs office. This clearance was among the very first productive transactions processed under the new system nationwide and represents an important step in Switzerland's migration from e-dec to Passar.
Following this initial success, a second shipment connected to the Austrian "Smart Border Austria" procedure was completed successfully the very next day, demonstrating the reliability of the integrated cross-border customs process.
These achievements confirm the readiness of MIC's Swiss customs clearance solution, which supports direct electronic communication with both e-dec and Passar. The solution enables companies to manage customs processes through a standardized platform while meeting all Swiss-specific customs filing requirements.
What's Next?
The pilot phase will continue with additional shipments at the customs office in St. Margrethen. In the next project stage, Gebrüder Weiss will move towards a more autonomous customs clearance process in Au, where only MRN references will be provided to customs coordinators while customs declarations are processed independently.
Further initiatives are already under discussion, including customs clearances under the Authorized Consignee procedure and deployments at additional customs offices.
A key objective of the upcoming phases is the implementation of fully automated customs clearance processes between Austria and Switzerland. This would eliminate the need for counter visits and further enhances cross-border trade operations.
