Efficient Port Communication with MIC PCSI: Interface to harbor management IT-systems in Belgium and the Netherlands

News | Customs Filing 8 September 2020

MIC’s software module MIC PCSI (Port Communication System Integration) enables an efficient communication with harbor management IT-systems in Belgium and the Netherlands.

While customs related management functions of international harbors for seagoing vessels within the EU are standardized to a high degree, the harbors IT-systems are highly individual. Different harbor management IT-systems imply different process implementations, different interfaces, different message formats, different code lists and validations, different communication methods and many more.

With MIC PCSI (Port Communication System Integration), we offer a comprehensive software solution for communicating with multiple harbor management IT-systems. The module enables requesting and sending information regarding inbound and outbound goods. This module was designed to offer a standardized GUI (Graphical User Interface) for similar customs related data interfaces to different harbor management IT-systems, each providing harbor-specific data exchange components, all in one single product.

The Port Communication System Integration ensures efficient communication with the Dutch and Belgian harbor management IT-systems. Exports from Belgium and the Netherlands are reported to the port systems in both countries. The following interfaces for our customs filing solution MIC-CUST ® to the harbor systems in the Netherlands and Belgium are provided:

  • PCS - Port Community System: MIC offers an interface for PCS in Amsterdam and Rotterdam, which is managed by the company Portbase. PCS supports container terminals, also called Lift-On/Lift-Off terminals (LOLO). For Brexit preparations also ferry terminals for ferries to and from the UK are supported.
  • APCS - Antwerp Port Communication System: MIC provides an interface for APCS in Antwerp and Zeebrügge, which is managed by C-point (formerly APCS, together with NxtPort). C-point supports Lift-On/Lift-Off terminals for containers (LOLO) and Roll-On/Roll-Off (RORO) for vehicles. Since 2019, also ferry terminals for ferries to and from the UK are supported in order to be prepared for Brexit.

MIC will continuously add connection to harbor management IT-systems in further countries.
